Let me begin by stating that it is currently 3AM as I begin writing this. I am in the “Bonus Room” of my sister-in-law’s house, tired as crap, but bothered by some Japanese food I ate for dinner. Apparently, my stomach is not the Iron Trap that I thought it was and cannot handle all foods accourdingly.

I readily admit, I am not up on my Scripture these days. It seems the Antagonist has a desire for me not to be. For the last few nights however, I have broken out my NIV/Message parallel and have to say that I have been taken aback. Each night I have read something profound that I never saw before. It is a good feeling when you get fresh perspective on Scripture. Nothing like it, I must say.

Matthew 9:35-38Then Jesus made a circuit of all the towns and villages. He taught in their meeting places, reported kingdom news, and healed their diseased bodies, healed their bruised and hurt lives. When he looked out over the crowds, his heart broke. So confused and aimless they were, like sheep with no shepherd. “What a huge harvest!” he said to his disciples. “How few workers! On your knees and pray for harvest hands!” – The Message

Note how Christ doesn’t just heal their diseases, he heals their bruised and hurt lives.

Amazing. Simply Amazing. Link this passage with John 14
11-14″Believe me: I am in my Father and my Father is in me. If you can’t believe that, believe what you see—these works. The person who trusts me will not only do what I’m doing but even greater things, because I, on my way to the Father, am giving you the same work to do that I’ve been doing. You can count on it. From now on, whatever you request along the lines of who I am and what I am doing, I’ll do it. That’s how the Father will be seen for who he is in the Son. I mean it. Whatever you request in this way, I’ll do. – The Message

So, let’s call these people who are doing what Christ would do “The Church”. I think all would agree that this is a feasible assumption.

Note that Jesus doesn’t say that we will do the same things. No, He says we will do greater things. That we will be able to do greater works than healing the blind, lame, leprous, etc, etc.

We, The Church, have the responsibility of healing the bruised and hurt lives of the World. Remember that Jesus not only comes into the World, but he specifically told the Pharisees that he came for the Sinner, not the Righteous. So, we as Christians, should be here for the same. The World is bruised and hurt; we all know it. It is our duty and our commission and, quite frankly, a promise straight from Christ that healing the bruised and hurt lives of the World is what we were meant to do.

So, brother and sister Christian, I urge you, in the same strain that Christ would, to get out there and heal. Heal by being a connection in such a disconnected world. We talk about how the Internet and our cell phones have brought us to this place where someone can find us anytime, anywhere, and yet, most of us are so disconnected from Humanity that we seldom even realize what is Human and Inhuman. We settle for relationship with a TV screen, Computer Screen, Movie Screen, etc., rather than a real connection with the persons we live with and work with each and every day. Real people are Really Hurting and Jesus Christ has given us, through the Holy Spirit, the power and authority to heal the bruised and hurt lives of the World.

All this to say, Get connected. Be the helpmate of our Lord. Be the Bride of Christ. Do the greater things that Jesus taught us about.
